Educating The Children

I'm quite embarrassed to say that I haven't posted since July..and it is now October. Despite the post date, which I quite frequently change (though usually not so drastically). Falling so far behind on my blogging I thought of abandoning it altogether, leaving my rambling thoughts to be lost in the ether. But, I decided I have too much to blab about and merely not enough time to say it. So bear with me from now on.
While planning my return as Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City as been my daytime indulgence..thank you TBS) I fell across this video and decided it was the perfect way to welcome my return. Enjoy.

Limitless

I came across the video for 'Eraser', the new single from No Age and was immediately enraptured. The video plays like a dream that you can't decide is pleasant or cryptic. Director Adam Bruntel composed the picturesque backyard mayhem (those balloons!), as well as No Age's video for 'Keechie', which is equally poetic.

Independently Speaking

The 4th of July and the beach go hand in hand, so of course I made my way down to Orange County for the holiday. I spent the afternoon at Torts, the secret beach that is only accessible by a nearly vertical climb down hundreds of stairs, a barefoot walk across hot sand, and a slippery climb over a path of rocks that, at high tide, becomes more like a swim. But the long trek is worth it, even if it leaves you with sore calfs and thighs for the next few days. The beach becomes somewhat of a city for a day, with friends staking out spots with umbrellas, towels on the sand that hide holes big to shelter three people comfortably, different music for every pod of people (usually reggae), and a 10 foot tall teepee made of palm fronds and bamboo which had smoke drifting out of it for most of the afternoon. For anyone who doesn't live in a gated community, this beach becomes a mecca for everyone under 25 years old on the 4th of July.
Later in the afternoon the boys and I, along with Sasha, Erik's own Carrie Bradshaw, made our way to the beach party hosted by Sambazon. A warm sunset watched us dance into the evening to the grooves spun by a live DJ.

EeeDeeSee

Electric Daisy Carnival at the Coliseum was out of this world. A record-breaking 68,000 attendees made it out for an all night feast for the senses. The boys and I arrived later in the evening to catch Benny Benassi, Z Trip, among many others, and managed to mob our way to front and center at Moby just in time for 'Porcelain'.

The bass was in our bones, but the best part of the night was was around 3am when Sam and I found i & i sound, an ice cream truck that had been converted into a mobile reggae DJ booth. red, green and yellow lights strung around the nearby trees sectioned off a grassy area that transported us to a place that felt like more like an island backyard barbecue than a techno festival. The dreadlocked DJs remixed The Cure's "Close to Me" with OutKast's "Mrs. Jackson" that had us all dancing and me wishing I was in a long skirt to swing with.
