Halloweird

Since Halloween lands in the middle of the week this year, costumed festivities began early this weekend. Chelsea and her girlies Lena and Missy joined Mike, Granty and I for an evening of adventures.

Fine Dining

Since I've moved into my own place I have wanted to throw a dinner party, so I finally gathered up my friends and we had a smashing time. The trip to the market proved Eva's inability to determine what will taste good; she wanted to mix grapes with oreo cookie ice cream for dessert, Chelsea and I had to convince her otherwise. Kevin, Eva's on-again off-again boyfriend, rocked the main course and Chelsea saved dinner with her pasta sauce, which she didn't even get to try on account of night volleyball practice.

I Want to Hold Your Hand

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Last week I kept busy with work. Castings for FX's 'Dirt', a spin-off of Disney's 'The Suite Life' and a Paramount film 'Chain Letter'. A two day shoot at Kohl's was also squeezed in there. By Friday I was on the brink of exhaustion, so a visit home was exactly what I needed. I spent time with mum and dad and I got a chance to see my grandparents and little cousin. I also got a chance to see the movie Across the Universe, which i fell in love with. Although some parts had me feeling as if I was on a bad acid trip, most of the movie was a musically and visually gratifying love story. Murphy and I had some good bonding time too.

Age is Just a Number

The Detour Festival left me with a thoroughly sore voice..actually it left me with no voice at all, and just in time to not be able to answer Grant's phone calls. Monday night Grant pulled his trick again at the Justice show, telling the guy at the ticket booth that he was a DJ from Australia, and got us VIP balcony seats. We sat above the pulsing crowd and compared our evening to a modern night at the opera. Mike passed out in the car earlier, and woke up after we returned to the car and asked if we were ready for the show. We told him he blacked out and got violent.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThe following Friday Kayslee called me up and came over to have some fun in LA. We made our way to Casey's pad and the rest is history because any night with Kays is crazy.

ZeTour

Chelsea and I drove to downtown LA on one of the clearest days I've seen in the city. Grant and Mike in the backseat groaned about traffic, a source of constant complaint for anyone who has to travel on a freeway in Los Angeles. We finally made it to the festival grounds, four blocks of closed off streets that was turned into an hipster's paradies. Will call accidentally gave Chelsea two VIP tickets so between the four of us we were one ticket short of an open bar. Disappeared and returned five minutes later with another ticket. A backstage ticket. Not even explaining how he worked his magic to get it, he grabbed my hand and wisked me off to see what kind of backstage access we could get. Granty used his Australian accent to convince a tour manager that he was a aussie dj who just got off a 14 hour flight and his 'girlfriend' needed a pass too. It worked and we wandered around the tour buses until we found one with a sign that read "JUSTIC", so of course we let ourselves in. Inside we find not only Justice, but Sabastian, Kavinsky, DJ Mehdi and Busy P. Cigarette smoke filled the hip tour bus, as did conversations in French. Justice's set time was approaching so everyone made their way for the stage, and we followed. While Justice and the rest played to a colossal crowd, Granty and I danced on stage with the rest of the cool kids.

Day Job

Midweek I flew to Kohl's for a shoot. They paired me with a 'mom' and 'dad' who niether couldn't have been over thirty. Actually the male model..Demetier was it?.. was quite charming, and his French-Canadian accent didn't hurt. I so love the team who works there. The sweet Midwest women with an artsy side are the stylists and makeup artists who I spend most of the day with with. And although I worked with two girls, one who was a real-life Alice in Wonderland and the other who had the most gorgeous mocha skin and almond eyes, we weren't close enough to take photos just yet. I bought myself a new blackberry and I'm addicted.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Wonderful Neon Dream

Backtracking a bit. Last last Friday I drove to the valley and met up with crazy Kayslee baby. We went to a house party hosted but everyone there were young actor kids. It was really great to be in that environment and party with actors who were at the same point that I am at too. Kays is so nuts and was trying to figure out she could spend the night and get to a casting the next day and find a ride back home.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThe following night couldn't have been more neon. Casey and I met up with the party crew and took a limo to Nocturnal Wonderland, a rave headlining Benny Benassi, Chemical Brothers and Paul van Dyk. The wide-eyed crowd bounced to techno/electro/house beats until four in the morning. I was named Princess Universe and a crown appeared in my hands. Words cannot describe being there. The music was in our bodies and heads. We couldn't stop.

Miss Chevious

Earlier this week I did a shoot for Miss Chevious clothing. It was another saccharine sweet, smiley jobs involving a mini trampolie. My specialty. The studio wasn't in the best part of town, I had to step over a homeless guy on the sidewalk who greeted me goodmorning with the deepest, raspiest voice that would put Tom Waits to shame. But inside, the studio was an open live/work space with the makeup counter next to the kitchen. Vintage couches, a red table and antique chandeliers accented the studio. Our photographer, Brett, looked like Justin Timberlake plus ten years and complained about a hangover from his birthday party the night before. Since models are not supposed to wear makeup in the morning when we go to shoots, I looked like a plain-faced twelve-year-old boy and I think Brett initially wrote me off and took to talking to the other blone model. After a quick pass through hair and makeup, Brett took one look and said "Wow you're like a different person!". Yeah, thanks, I know. The shoot got started, and for some reason the sample sizes were extra small. I have no idea how the other model, who had breasts that were significantly larger mine, fit into the clothes. She was cute, but in front of the camera she froze and gave the 'first time' teen pornstar grin for every shot. By the end of the day Brett was following me around taking candid photos around set. He showed me a review of the pics he had taken and was saying that every shot was great and could be used, and then we came across a photo of the other girl and he made an 'euuhhgg' sound. Aw wellz.
