A Little More Somewhere Else

Hot. The word that pretty much defined the day. It was fucking hot today. <---haha Yeah Thursday was hot. The weather at school has been so perfect, sunny but with a little breeze to keep us cool, so that day came as a surprise. I'm finally done with my first week of classes and its been much better than I had expected. Most of my classes are acting or theater workshops, lucky me! I was talking to a few other girls and we were surprised that everyone hadn't come together as friends as friends. Going into college we were all told not to worry about making friends because everyone else is feeling the same way and wants to be you friend too. The girls especially have been more reserved in their friend choosing, every freshman is connected at the hip with their roommate and feels no need to look any further for companionship. But it is still just the first week, so lots will change I'm sure.
Thursday afternoon I had a casting for the abc family show GREEK at the CBS studios which unfortunately meant a trip over to the Valley. It worked out perfectly with my schedule and I was able to make it in between classes. Stepping out of my air conditioned car felt like a wool blanket was thrown over me and the short two block walk had me breaking a sweat. Despite my glisten, the casting director had me return for a callback later in the day. The second time around was a bit different. The other actors and I waited over an hour and a half in a stuffy portable on the lot to see casting. One guy was really stressed and so nervous his hands were shaking pretty bad. Poor guy.
Despite much planning and excitement, my plans for a weekend trip to Havasu fell through, leaving me to stubbornly sit outside and curse the airplanes that fly overhead routinely every three minutes. Alaska Air, fuck you. Southwest, fuck you. Jal, fuck you. Since this was throughly productive I decided to stop before I hurt my brain.
Federico has become my new bestfriend, almost roommate status. I joined my buddy and his buddies at the beach. I'm still trying to find my niche among all the older guys and sorority girls. But so far I'm the coolest 'first year' I know.
My mood was lightened over sushi when we used our college IDs to pay for our sake and Asahis. Maybe I was just buzzed. After dinner we went to Traverse's house. That name totally sounds like a black guy. He's not. We played beer pong and danced in the living room to a DVD called Thizzle's House 3 and talked about chineses investing on the balcony looking over the hazy night LA skyline. Tom Petty played as we mixed drinks.

Oh yeah. Alright.
Take it easy baby
Make it last all night

My Favourite Color

It has been far overdue. I taught him how to play backgammon in the afternoon. We went to the Improv comedy club at night. We walked the streets and saw a black and white the way it was meant to be seen. He bought my breakfast. I made the last shot, but together we made the winning team. Hunter green has always been my favorite color.

What Cha Got?

This weekend I worked a fashion show for the opening of a new mall in Tustin. My wonderful Carolyn and I were finally reunited. I love Carolyn beacause we are on the same frequency, her personality matches mine, which cuts out the all confusion of trying to figure out what someone else is trying to say when they say it. It also cuts out all the fun of trying to figuring out what someone else is trying to say. But second guessing is overrated. Its been a year since we first met at a test shoot which took us all around San Diego, and since our wild weekend in Laguna with Kayslee. I was actually surprised that Kays wasn't working the fashion show with us. There's a reason her name rhymes with crazy..tall, blonde and pretty much a life-size Barbie doll, at 16 she's the biggest self-promoter I know and is convinced she's gonna be a superstar. And she will be. Nothing can hold Kayslee down. Even though her personality is out of control, Kayslee would have been perfect for the job this weekend. A group of twelve of us had to work the masses pouring through the newly opened corridors and hype the fashion show later in the day and hand out hawaiian leis. There were plenty of dirty men who made 'lei' comments as they brushed pass. Our smiles turned to grimaces as we stayed professional as possible. Feeling a bit like we had solicited ourselves as hookers for the past two days, Carolyn and I spent the night together in LA, hoping to go to a party at a producer's hosue. Not surprisingly our night didn't end up like the Hollywood party scene we had hoped it would, and instead we got to know my new neighbor, Fedrico. My opinion on Fedrico is still forming; I can't decide if he's smart and just sounds not-as-smart because of his Italian accent and the way he phrases and rearranges sentances, or if he is smart and the aroma of pot that hit me as we walked in his apartment had something to do with it. Either way he should be fun person to have living just down the hall from me for the next year.
Sunday morning Carolyn and I visited Casey at her new apartment in Westwood and met her new pet albino geckos, Lucifer and Jesus. We picked up Kady and went to a yardsale hosted by Corey Kennedy and the Cobrasnake. Mickey Avalon shirts and push pops for all! I did an interview for Nylon tv and met marvin scott jarret, the magazine's chief editor. The car ride back to Tustin was populated by three zexy cross country runners.
The afternoon was a bit more rough. We were all exhausted and melting in the heat. The end of our day didn't come soon enough, but seeing our agent, Corrina, sing opera back at the dressing rooms lightened us up.

Sunny SpaceCraft

I'm so burnt out but for some reason I woke up extra early this morning when I really could have gone for an extra two hours of sleep. I decided to drive home last night so give my last goodbye to Tinkess until the holidays, and I'm really glad I did, but man am I tired. I didn't shower last night, so my hair has an authentic dirty bedhead look, helped by Steve, the stylist who was working to get that look at the Miken shoot yesterday. I worked with Katie from FORD again and I was planning on taking more pictures but the art director borrowed my camera..so photo credit to Jessica today. The photographer, Gary Wood, rocked, the hairstylist rocked and the makeup artist rocked, I love working with people who kick ass at what they do, that kind of attitude just steps it up for everyone and results in really good shit.

Pass Under the Moonlight

Erik was the first to leave. And now its started. One by one our dear group of friends from elementary school is being torn apart by the future. This is the point where we break away from dependence and begin a new chapter. We all spent the evening at Erik's house, better known by most of Laguna's high school population as party central where anyone whos anyone has been way too wasted for their own good. But for those close to Erik we had to say farewell, at least for a while, to a home that we called ours. We all found ourselves in the kitchen retelling our favorite memories about the infamous residence, like the time fit fifteen people onto Erik's mini-trampoline and then ate jellybeans or the time Erik threatened everyone with a knife when one of his parties got too wild, and who could forget the egg chair? The night ended with us returning to our middle school blacktop, a place where many of us became friends, to lie out and watch the last meteor shower of our lifetime.

Will Work for MakeUp

I love my job. On Wednesday I was given the chance to work with some up-and-coming makeup artists in a master class hosted by Stila. A penthouse suite at the Mondrian Hotel was taken over by 'inspiration boards', fem-pop music and a photographer who rushed the makeup artists along by shouting "ONLY FIVE MINUTES LEFT!". I felt a bit like I was on one of those challenge reality shows. I was made up in three different looks by different makeup artists; a glam 'red carpet' look, a dramatic dark smokey eye look and a light daytime look. After each look was completed the photographer snapped a handful of beauty shots, which I kinda got to style myself..adding my own sweater, hoodie and headband for different looks. But after we took the photos I had to wash off my makeup so another artist could get to work. I felt so bad, after all that time and energy put into making the makup look great, I had to get rid of it! But at least both the makeup artist and I got some really beautiful pictures out of the day, and out of all the other models, I was the only one who worked three looks, I totally rocked it. AND the best part was I got a bag full of free Stila cosmetics!!

Extreme

Yesterday Erik and I went to the X Games at the Home Depot Center to watch the skateboard vert finals and the car rally finals. Since we have a VIP suite i figured we wouldn't be outside and left the house sans sunscreen. Well the vert competition was outside, in the hot afternoon, and my forehead and nose turned a nice shade of cherry red. A tan face has been a look I've been trying to avoid all summer. We saw all the skateboarders do really sick tricks, get huge air and also eat it big time. Mr Shawn White turned out a golden run in his last heat and won by charging the halfpipe the entire run. The Flying Tomatoe captures vicory once again. The car rally was actually really fun to watch. Two cars race around the dirt track and out onto the street, competing for the best time, and try not to crash. Sweet.

It Was All Different When I Woke Up

Change. Thats been the definitive word of the past couple of days. I'm sure it will be for the near future. I've just had many endings as well as several new beginnings, so its true that when one door closes another opens. Goodbyes to old agents and managers, life long friends, a beautiful beach community and a caring boyfriend seem hard to face. But following the goodbyes come an eager hello to better agents, new friends, a new apartment and big city and a healing heart. This picture from my new balcony inspires me to stay positive. I am so ready for LA!

Fond Farewell

After a very long and dificult talk, Johnny and I have decided to end our nearly eight month relationship. I think that if both people in a relationship have learned from eachother and grown and matured, then it was all worth it. Johnny has taught me so much and I am so thankful that he was able to be an amazing chapter in my life. I am completely crushed and heartbroken, but it was a decision we both made, to try and work the shit out or start fresh without eachother, so I have no one to blame but myself.

Pump It Up

Tuesday afternoon I had to catch two flights and haul myself over to the Kohl's headquarters in Milwaukee for a photoshoot. I swear, they must shoot every single day of the week because they fly me out there every three weeks like clock work. And there are always tons of models working. But this time I had some company, both Kalyn and Rachael were out there working the same day too. I love those girls. Its hard to understand how much work is put into a job that seems so easy. Hanging out with cool, interesting people is a perk. Lynda, our hairstylist, has the androgenous Bowie haircut with steel blue eyes but has the sweetest personality topped off with a British accent. And I lalaLOVE Pieter, our makeup artist from Amsterdam, who tells us about his Madonna Halloween costume and has comments on every celebrity. His hands always smell of a mix of cigarettes and polo black. The shoot went well and immediately after we were shuttled to the airport where our flight was delayed a half an hour, just enough time for me to step into the Denver airport to hear that my connecting flight, 22 gates away, was departing in 2 minutes. Sprinting through the airport, rolley suitcase flying behind me, I made it to the gate and into my seat with no time to spare.
